As many of you know, my wife has a child that she claims is mine and I'm not allowed to give it away. This means we have to feed it. On the weekends this means taking her to brunch at places where kids are not frowned upon (children are never welcome anywhere - they're just not hated in some places). Tallula/Eat Bar has "cartoon brunch," so we went.
First of all, I don't know why the place has two names, but it does. It's the same place. One door, one hostess - it's one place. The multiple names is just annoying without reason. Good thing the place had great food.
I figured "cartoon brunch" would not be as advertised, or worse, exactly as advertised with servers dressed as Disney characters. The truth is perfectly in the middle - it's a screen with Looney Toons playing. My daughter thought it was the shit. She even said so. I was then in trouble.
Their brunch selection is pretty simple - everything you'd expect with... wait, I just looked at the menu as of 03-03-2013 at least one item I liked is gone. Crap. Well this review is basically worthless now.
I really only decided write this review because their bacon is awesome. Their bacon is a man's bacon. If their bacon was a guy you knew it'd be the guy who had a wrench in his back pocket and hair on his knuckles. A guy who knows how to use a chainsaw and carries a pocket knife everywhere. Seriously - if their bacon was an actor it would be Clint Eastwood. Very salty, super smokey and thick - that's Tallula's bacon. It's just really damn good bacon. I'm sure they've kept the bacon even though the menu has changed in the two weeks since I've been there.
I got the three eggs any style, which was more like one and a half eggs scrambled. The potatoes are perfectly cooked but lack seasoning. They are meant to carry ketchup to your mouth. Something tells me they should be making their own ketchup, instead of providing Heinz if that's the case.
The winner other than their bacon was their cheddar grits - that are no longer on the menu. They were awesome, but now they are gone, so these words do not matter.
My wife had their crispy pork benedict with jalapenos. It was very good and the pork was, and this is becoming a trend here, great. She wants to go back just for that and it's still on the menu (thank God).
My wife also wanted me to point out that the waiter was super hot and very nice - everything I'm not. So, if you're into cute guys slinging bacon - Tallula/Eat Bar is your place.
Give it a try. The kids love the cartoons, the wife will love the help and you'll dig the bacon.
